Plain. Simple. Heart to Heart.

Who’s The Greatest?

Who’s #1?
No, I’m not talking sports. But sports makes a good analogy. A few years ago, I was reading in Luke 9, the account of what’s referred to as Jesus’ transfiguration on the mount, with 3 of His disciples, Peter, James, & John. Extraordinary experience! Then they came down from the mount, to where Jesus had to cast out an evil spirit from a boy, because the other disciples couldn’t, due to their lack of faith, and not understanding the need for prayer and fasting. (Mark 9)
Then just a little farther on, in Luke 9:46, it says, “Then there arose a reasoning among them, which of them should be greatest.” The Lord stopped me right there, and said, “Who starts those kinds of arguments?” Well, I had never really thought about that, and had always kind of blamed all 12. But it only took a second to think of the sports analogy, and I knew what He was telling me.

Then, more recently, He brought to my remembrance how, way, way back, it was Lucifer, one of the top 3, one that excelled in beauty… that wanted to lay claim to #1. We know how that worked out.

Now to use a football analogy, I believe the referee is giving a little verbal warning, before he starts throwing penalty flags. Jesus was still patiently trying to teach His disciples this lesson at the last supper. (Luke 22) Now we have their examples, written for our admonition, so we can get it right.
