Save The Wolves

SAVE THE WOLVES!I was reading Matthew 10 this morning, and came to verse 16, where Jesus tells His disciples, “Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.” [KJV] Well, I like to picture graphically what I read in the Word, and the picture of someone telling sheep that are surrounded by wolves, “Sheep… now don’t hurt the wol…ves,” was too funny to let pass.

So I dug into it a little bit, and found that some Bible margins note “innocent” as an alternative translation to “harmless”. Then I found the actual definition of the word to be:
1. Unmixed, pure as in wines or metals.
2. Of the mind, without a mixture of evil, free from guile, innocent, simple.

I love it! The way to survive as a sheep in the midst of wolves, and actually be effective and fruitful is to stay pure, unmixed, unspotted by the world. Not trying to fit in with the wolves… that’s foolish to the point of ridiculous. Can you imagine a sheep trying to eat raw meat instead of green grass; trying to howl instead of baa-aa-aa; trying to comb his wool straight? It should be just as ridiculous for a Christian to try to be like the world. That’s like light trying to fit in with the darkness. We have nothing in common except that God loved us all so much that He sent His Son to die for our sins, that WHOSOEVER believeth in Him, might have eternal life.

Now living, thinking, and talking like THAT, you’re going to be beyond “harmless”… you will even see some WOLVES SAVED!
