But a week or so ago, I lived in a hotel room for a couple days. And so did a whole bunch of other people. We could use the elevator, sleep in the beds, use the water, turn lights on and off; but we couldn’t make too much noise, we couldn’t change out the furniture, couldn’t sell the TV, couldn’t paint the walls: because we didn’t OWN the hotel.
Sadly, that’s the way a lot of professing Christians let Jesus live in them. They let Jesus stay in one of the spaces in their hotel, as long as He pays their set room rate, and He doesn’t try to change or get rid of anything, or make too much noise and bother the other “guests”. They want Jesus to “live in them”, but not OWN them.
God’s Word says we have been BOUGHT with a great price, …the precious blood of the Lamb. We are NOT our own. He OWNS us! He holds the deed… free and clear. He can do ANYTHING He wants with what He owns! If you are putting ANY restrictions on what God can do in your life, or are asking any payment from Him, you’re treating Him as a renter, not the OWNER. Then it really doesn’t mean much of anything to have Him “living” in you. He’s not interested in anything less than us SELLING OUT to Him. Not a guest, not a renter… our OWNER!
