Plain. Simple. Heart to Heart.

Lord, Tear Down What You Didn’t Build

“Lord, tear down anything in my life, in my thinking, in my heart, that You didn’t build; and strengthen all that You did build.” That was a prayer I began crying out to the Lord several years ago. I was serious… real serious, and He heard my cry, and He answered. And He opened His Word, and began to tear down things that I had thought He built, …little by little, all in love and such gentleness. And I love it, and I want more of it. When I dig into God’s Word, I would rather that He show me something that I need to change, than find a confirmation of something I’m already doing. Of course I need His encouragement, like anyone else, but without His correction and reproof, I’d be wasting time and energy on misdirected efforts that have no eternal reward, and may actually be hindering others from knowing His love. As long as I see things in His Word that are not completely fulfilled in my life, I keep seeking and praying that He would teach me, correct me, and change me.I hear that same desire in my brethren, and in the ministry in this church, and beyond. Let’s continue to encourage each other, fan each other’s fire, and be ready to let the Lord use us however He wants. We can all fulfill His perfect will in our lives, if we truly, holding nothing back, open our hearts to His Word and His Spirit.
