Plain. Simple. Heart to Heart.

Afraid To Ask The Master?

Wednesday night we heard again Jesus’ words to His disciples, that their eyes and ears were blessed, for they saw and heard and could understand. I really like that.
But the next morning, my Bible opened to Mark 9:30-32, where He told His disciples that the Son of Man would be delivered into the hands of men, and be killed, and rise again the 3rd day. Then it says, “But they understood not that saying, and were afraid to ask Him.” These were chosen men. They had a love for the truth. So why would they be afraid to ask?
When you read on in both Mark 9, and Luke 9, you get a clue: The next thing recorded is an argument about which of them is the greatest. (No coincidence.) If you’re afraid to ask the Lord about something, it could be that you’re afraid that His answer might mess up your own ambitions, and dreams, and comfort. And without the understanding that comes from asking and listening without fear or reservation, there is likely to be an over-inflated self-importance, and a misperception of His will and His ways.
So, we just heard it. If you want understanding, go to Jesus. ESPECIALLY, if you hear Him saying something you don’t understand, or that doesn’t fit into how you think it should be.

Is there anything you’re afraid to ask the Master?
