Whiter Than Snow… Just That Quick

“I shall be whiter than snow.”
“Thou shalt make me to know wisdom.”
“I will teach transgressors Thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto Thee.”
“My tongue shall sing aloud of Thy righteousness.”

Those are the words of David, a man after God’s own heart. Not surprising, huh? David was a man who knew God in a very personal way. A man of faith. A man of worship. A mighty man of God.
What you might find surprising, though, is that these words all come from Psalm 51. Those are the words of David, unto the Lord, right after Nathan the prophet came to him, and exposed David’s sin. And it wasn’t just a little sin. Big ones… lust, adultery, deceit, murder, despising the commandment of the Lord (2 Samuel 12:9). And he covered it all up, and sat on it for months afterward, without repenting. And he didn’t repent from the conviction of the Holy Spirit. God had to send a prophet to expose his sin.

It’s really hard to imagine. In those months, did David quit offering sacrifices? Did he quit singing songs? Did he quit talking about the Lord? We don’t know, but I’m sure we can add hypocrisy to his sins.

David had never read 1 John 1:9. “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” But he KNEW GOD! There is no way anyone would have the nerve… the audacity… to pray to God what David did in Psalm 51, unless, deep in the very core of his heart, he knew God in a deep intimate way that very, very few people have ever known Him.
After a sin so great as all that David had just done, you would expect him to beat himself up for years… maybe the rest of his life. Certainly, he would have to prove himself for a good long time, before he could be truly clean. And teach sinners God’s ways? And sing aloud of God’s righteousness? How could that ever be like it was before?

It is all because David had spent time, intimate time, with the Lord in the quiet places, so he KNEW GOD! He knew 1 John 1:9 before it was written… because it was in God’s heart, and he had heard God’s heart!

It starts with confessing our SINS… not excuses. And not calling sin by some lighter name… human weakness, not in perfection, missed it, stumbled, etc. David said it plainly… “I have sinned against the Lord!”

THEN, in the very same verse (2 Samuel 12:13), the prophet says to David, “The Lord also hath put away thy sin!” How utterly amazing is that?! Who but God would do something like that.
That does NOT mean that sin is some light thing! Sin has consequences. There are things that cannot be undone. Sin is so serious that it took the sacrifice of God’s own Son, to set us free from it. We can’t think that we know God, if we don’t HATE sin, like God hates sin. God hates sin so much, and LOVES us SO much, that He sent His only begotten Son, to suffer and DIE for us!

Yes, we can be whiter than snow. Instantly! Read Psalm 51, and see how boldly David is praying to God. Vs.8: “Make me to hear joy and gladness.” Vs. 12: “Restore to me the joy of Thy salvation.” THAT quick? YES! That quick!
