The “Secret Place” in God. Listen again to Scott’s message from Aug.17. It’s a very simple message, but it can be the key to some huge changes in a person’s life. It could also be too easy to take it lightly… to think of that secret place as some place in your past, and think “Yeah, I know, I’ve been there.” Or to think of it as something way out there in the future… someday… but just a dream right now. Or to think it’s only for other people… somebody that’s “doing better”, or has never fallen short like you have.
There is a personal invitation from God to each and every one of us right now! He wants us to come NOW into that special place with Him, where He can reveal Himself to us. That secret place is not hidden to make it HARD to enter in. It’s for privacy… intimacy… a very, very special time and place, with Him alone. He WANTS us to know Him. It’s only hidden from the proud, the self-righteous, the man who’s wise in his own eyes.That secret place is certainly a reward, but it’s not something you achieve because you’ve done everything just right and you deserve it. It’s a reward of humility, and hungering and thirsting, asking, seeking, knocking… from knowing how much you NEED Him. It’s not the end of the journey, but rather, how you get to know God’s heart and His ways, to gain the strength and the wisdom to walk, and live, and overcome. When we behold His glory, it CHANGES US from glory to glory. [See 2 Cor. 3:18]His presence is a place of CHANGE!
When you come to that secret place, God might ask you, like He asked Elijah, “What are you doing here?” Why do you seek the secret place? Are you coming to escape from conflict with the enemy? Are you coming for a pat on the back for your great sacrifice and faithfulness? Are you coming for peace and comfort? Are you coming for the benefits?
Yes, there are benefits there. Yes, He will comfort you beyond anything you’ve ever felt. But you had better be ready to “stand upon the mount before the Lord”. You better be ready to get your marching orders. You better be ready to turn around, even if it was God that supernaturally gave you the strength to get to that place. You better be ready to be corrected, and chastened. But in all His correction and molding, you will know the overwhelming love of God which makes you strong and bold, …and humble.
God is HOLY! And God is LOVE! You will know both in that secret place, and it will CHANGE YOU! Again, and again, and again…
