The Humility In Love

“Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.”
[1 Corinthians 13:4-7 KJV]

If you read those verses again, substituting the word ‘humility’ for ‘charity’, it would all be just as true. It’s because you really can’t separate the two. Humility and the love of God is all about others, and their welfare. Pride is about exalting oneself… focusing on differences where one could say he was better than another. Love is about erasing the differences, and humbling oneself to serve another. Love and humility bring unity. Pride creates division.

“ If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies,
2 Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.
3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.
4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.” [Philippians 2:1-4 KJV]

”…With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;
3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.”
[Ephesians 4:2-3 KJV]

How could anyone not feel more bonded together in unity with one who has put himself under them, lifting them up; than to one who is trying to be above them, putting them down? God is love, and Jesus demonstrated that love and humility so perfectly, as One among us that serves! (see Luke 22:26-27)
