Plain. Simple. Heart to Heart.

Lord, Open My Eyes

“Lord, Open my eyes.” “Lord, show me your ways.” “Lord, teach me.” I pray like that about every day. When I say those things to the Lord, I am acknowledging that there are things I don’t see, and don’t know. Yes, God has opened my eyes, and taught me, and shown me His ways; but the more my eyes are opened, the more I realize how much more there is that I don’t see. It’s humbling.

The more I see of God, the more awesome He becomes to me. It’s kind of odd, in a way, because it makes me feel smaller, and bigger, at the same time. Smaller in comparison to Him; but bigger, and greater, and stronger, to know how great the God that lives in me really is!

I’m not ashamed to pray, “Lord, open my eyes.” And I won’t quit until I see Him as He is… face to face.

But I also want Him to open my eyes to see WHAT He sees, AS He sees it. I want to see everything and everybody just as He does… seeing with His eyes. What my eyes have been opened to so far, has given me a whole lot more compassion and meekness toward others, who, like myself, love the Lord with all their heart, but recognize their need, and are crying out the same, “Lord, open our eyes.”

Jesus said, “For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind.” [John 9:39 KJV] That should be a comforting promise to us, not a threat, as the Pharisees took it.
