1 Peter 2:24 [KJV] “Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.”
What a beautiful, condensed gospel message right there. A beautiful message of salvation, healing, love, peace, and victory. But a horrible, ugly scene that day.
Whipped… bloodied… bruised… beaten… mocked… crucified… For OUR sins, our transgressions, our iniquities. But He suffered more than the physical pain. He BORE our sins. What does THAT feel like?
Just think for a second. What does it FEEL like when the Holy One, who knew no sin, is “made to be sin for us”? [2 Cor. 5:21 KJV] What does it FEEL like for pure light to be swarmed by darkness? What does it FEEL like for the Son of God, who had been ONE with the Father since forever, to feel separated, and forsaken? It was not just some abstract legal thing going on… He was BEARING our SINS! His physical suffering was horrendous, but what He felt in the spirit was much, much WORSE than the physical.
How could anyone see what sin cost the Saviour, and not HATE sin? How could anyone who has any understanding of what happened there, think that sin is just a normal, excusable part of a christian’s life? Some go even so far as to say that it doesn’t really matter if you continue to sin, since the blood covers it all.
Sin is hideous! All it took was one “little” sin in the Garden of Eden, and all of mankind was cursed, and the only way the curse could be lifted, and man come back to God, is that Jesus, the Son of God, had to die that awful death. It wasn’t the cumulative weight of sin through the ages that caused Him to have to be crucified. It was that one “little” sin! You think one little sin is no big deal????!
If a little sin is no big deal, then you might also think that you could do enough good to outweigh that sin, whether before you were saved, or after. No. Sin is SUCH a big deal, so hideous, so defiling, so heavy, that NOTHING can take it away, but the blood of the holy, spotless Lamb of God.
So let’s be DEAD to sins, and LIVE unto righteousness! Let’s OVERCOME by the blood of the Lamb!
